Ol’ Gee Whiz is the nickname for the Glenfield Western Rail Road. While operational in the first quarter of the 20th century, this railway was the lifeline for the logging operations on Tug Hill. Millions of board feet of lumber went to NYC and other markets.

Today the Ol’ Gee Whiz trail is a motorized recreational trail starting at the Whetstone Gulf Park and going off into the Tug Hill Wilderness. From the Ol Gee Whiz trail you can access the non-motarized Tug Hill Traverse Trail; a new trail over 20 miles long that cuts right through the center of the Tug Hill Wilderness.

Ol’ Gee Whiz is for those who love coffee, but don’t care about caffeine. It’s great coffee. This one is from the Cajamarca region of Peru. The Swiss Water process (or Mexican Water Process) is a decaffeination process whereby caffeine molecules are removed by a membrane of filters and reverse osmosis. The Caffeine is separated from the other parts of the coffee and then the other parts are reintroduced into the coffee before it’s dried back to 12% humidity.

The best part of Swiss Water is that it is completely safe. Whereas other processes use an acid to strip away the caffeine molecule, leaving a trace carcinogen, Swiss Water isolates and separates the caffeine molecule without any dangerous chemicals.

Our personal recommendation: Grab a v-60 or an aeropress, hike 5 miles out on the Traverse Trail and watch some beavers build a dam while brewing up some Ol’ Gee Whiz.
