Roasting Specialty Coffee in the Tug Hill Region

Mt. Elgon Anaerobic

Price

$16.00

This coffee traces itself back to four washing stations in the Mt. Elgon region that service 300 small producers. The mill and processing facility is called “The Coffee Yards” and was started by coffee entrepreneur and agronomist Norman Makuru.

Norman grew up in Uganda and was pulled into coffee actually because of his engineering background when he was recruited to build a mill to process coffee. When the company he was working for went broke, Norman was able to continue on with his coffee expertise and develop The Coffee Yards at one of the mills he had designed.

Today The Coffee Yards has a Peganos pulper (A Colombian coffee equipment manufacturer, often considered one of the best), multiple drying beds and fermentation tanks to focus on adding value to the coffee.

In general, African producers are known for really good washed coffees and really good naturals. Seeing an anaerobic natural as an offer really perked my (Scott’s) interest. Noah and I both really liked this coffee and I personally think that it demonstrates the potential of Ugandan coffees at the hands of a skilled processor.
