Origin: Aquiares Coffee Farm, Costa Rica


This coffee comes from the largest Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee farm in Costa Rica. The Aquiraes farm is located on the Turrialba Volcano. Rainforest Alliance Certification is awarded to farms that work on many fronts to improve both the human and environmental systems of a given area. Tug Hill Artisan Roasters did not purchase this coffee because it is Rainforest Alliance, but we do commend businesses that take care of people and the environment.  While the altitude is not super high, this coffee is of the “Centroamericano” varietal, which was bred to grow well at lower altitudes. 

Genetically speaking, the Centroamericano is a cross of the “Sudan Rume” varietal; which is a landrace varietal native to South Sudan, and a coffee from the Sarchimor family; which is where it gets its robusta resistance. 

This coffee was fermented anaerobically for 72 hrs before washed and dried. It’s juicy, but not winy.
